Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How does TopJokeSites.com work?

A: When you join, you will be given a small piece of HTML code to place on your site. This code will display an 88×31 pixel image that links to TopJokeSites.com. Each time a visitor to your site clicks on this link, you receive one vote (or hit in). The more votes you receive, the higher you will be ranked on our list.
Q: Why should I join?

A: Traffic! Your site should receive more visitors (hits out) than it send hits in. This occurs for two main reasons.

1. Because hits in open in the same window, but hits out open in a new window. So more than one member site can be visited at a time.

2. Some users set TopJokeSites.com as their home page or bookmark and revisit it.
Q: Is TopJokeSites.com free to join?

A: Yes. This is possible because of our users' support of our sponsors.
Q: My site is very small. Can I join?

A: Yes, of course. We hope you get a lot of extra traffic to help you grow.
Q: I submitted my site, but it isn't showing up on the list. Why?

A: Your site will not appear until you have placed the HTML code on your site, clicked once to activate your account and the list has been reranked.
Q: I want more votes. Can I send your linking code in my mailing list?

A: Yes, provided your mailing list is opt-in. As long as you don't change the target URL, you may adjust our code for this purpose.
Q: I want more votes. Can I open your site in a pop-up window?

A: Yes, provided you link to the gateway page in the normal way and the pop-up window has minimize, resize and close controls. Do not be tempted to use a pop-under window because our vote counting software will time-out and votes will not be counted!
Q: What are reranks and resets?

A: Every ten minutes, the list is reranked. This means that the votes accumulated in the previous ten minutes are used to reorder the list. In resets, which occur weekly, the votes and visitors counters are set back to zero, so that the ranking can start afresh.
Q: You have more sites in your database than you have places on your list. Will this adversely affect my chance of being listed?

A: It should not. We let dormant accounts remain on the list for some time because we understand that some such member sites will begin to receive traffic at a later date, and we expand our list periodically to attempt to ensure that all sites that are sending even one hit weekly are displayed.
